How to make your wedding day dog-friendly

For many, dogs are considered to be a key member of the family, so when it comes to one of the most important days of a couple's lives, their wedding day, it's only natural that they want their four-legged friends to be involved in the celebrations. That being said, lots of strangers, loud noises and the unfamiliar location of a wedding can prove quite overwhelming for our canine companions, so if you want to include your dog in your big day, there are a couple of things you need to be aware of. Below, Carolyn Menteith, Behaviourist at tails.com has offered her top tips and advice on how to throw the 'paw-fect' wedding that will ensure both humans and dogs remain happy at all times.

Honeymooning in your married name

If you are dreaming of jetting off to sandy shores with your sparkling new ring, spouse and matching passports...then this guide from NameSwitch will tell you how to make your dreams come true. Please do have a proper think about whether having matching passports straight away is really that important to you because, trust us when we say, it's not an easy thing to pull off! With recent changes to how processes work, effects of the Pandemic, and added complications like not being handed your marriage certificate on your wedding day, or needing the name on your NHS records to be the same as the one on your passport, an already stressful undertaking just got even more nail-biting! Outdated wedding laws need to change

In an article earlier this year there was discussion and praise aimed towards the Government's plans to allow outdoor weddings to be made permanent. The article also highlighted the eagerly awaited Law Commission report into marriage laws, which was due to be published in July. Now it has been published and we have had some time for the dust to settle, Kate Van Rol, Barrister at 4PB has looked into these recommendations, "Are wedding laws at present 'confusing, outdated and restrictive' as the Commission suggest, or would the implementation of their suggestions trivialise weddings and commercialise the ceremony?". Meet the team at the Writing Forge

The Writing Forge is a new company based in Lancashire.

"My wedding was planned for June 2020, bad timing - Yes, I know," says Adam Doyle, the director and head writer of The Writing Forge. "Like thousands of couples across the country, we faced the stress of cancelling suppliers and rearranging dates. We had gone for a very simple rustic outdoor wedding celebration, with a ceremony at the registry as we had both been married before. A year later, we were ready to go despite having half the number of guests we had originally planned.

"We wanted a more intimate ceremony during the day in front of all our guests, but finding the right kind of ceremony and vows proved to be a challenge. We are not particularly religious and wanted something that reflected us, our personality, and what we had been through. We settled on a hand-binding ceremony and set about finding the right words. When planning a wedding, you think of all the big stuff, dress, photographer, cake, venue, etc, but how much time do you set aside for vows, speeches, and toasts? It's one of the things that people remember the most and can make the day extra special.

How to incorporate your beloved pooch into your day

How can we incorporate our beloved pooch into our big day?

"Having your canine companion involved in your big day is incredibly important as they are a large part of the family. Look for a company that offers a range of pet care services to help your big day run smoothly, including the ceremony and photography assistance, full daycare, overnight boarding and even transport between locations. By hiring a professional, you can ensure your dog is part of your day without having to worry.

"Here at Thea's Lakeland Walks, we have great working relationships with an abundance of hotels across Cumbria and surrounding areas, ensuring your dog gets exceptional care whilst fulfilling its role as a very important pet."
