NerdWallet has surveyed over 1,000 married couples to find out the average cost of an engagement ring, the proposal itself, the dream proposal destinations both within and outside of the UK, and how long it takes to reach this milestone.
While many couple’s proposal plans were impacted by COVID-19 this year, the survey found the most popular destination to get engaged was the Lake District. Positioned in the North West of England, the stunning scenery of the Lake District is enjoyed by 15.8 million visitors each year. Filled with rugged, awe-inspiring mountains to endless lakes and streams going through the national parks, this spot is an idyllic location to get down on one knee. In second place was Cornwall, third The Scottish Highlands followed by Edinburgh and The Cotswolds.
They found the average cost of an engagement ring is £1,394. Edinburgh spends the most at a whopping £2,588, whilst Southampton spends the least at £942. Often taking time to plan a proposal, you can expect to spend an average of £787 more making the moment extra special. It takes an average of three years and two months to get engaged to your partner and the most popular place to pop the question during the pandemic is at home at 37%, perfect for anyone looking to propose during the second lockdown.
