For those of you who recently got engaged – congratulations! We can’t wait to help you plan your special day. If you’re unsure where to start planning, I found the best thing to do when I got engaged was to make a list of everything that you’d like to include in your day. From the big things like the venue and photographer down to the smaller details such as the cake topper and jewellery, write it all down. Now don’t panic if the list is a couple of pages long, not everything needs to be done right away and you can always change your mind. The list is there so you can see what items are important to you and to help you focus on one thing at a time. For some couples, the photographer may be the most essential supplier and for others, it may be the entertainment, however you envision your day is absolutely fine, just make sure you focus on what’s meaningful to you.
Once you have your list, you can begin planning. Always start with your venue, as this will dictate the day and time that you’re getting married. Once you have that set in stone, you can begin researching and booking the rest of your suppliers. To help inspire you, we’ve put together an issue focusing on the latest trends, with advice from local experts, must-have bridal fashion and news from across the North West.
Don’t forget if you’ve tied the knot, you can submit your day here or via our website.

Spotlight on The Lake District |
|
Broadoaks Country House
Not too far off the beaten path, but just enough to feel a world away, Broadoaks Country House occupies one of the most beautiful spots in the Lake District. Surrounded by well-manicured gardens and majestic woodland, and framed by the flush of the river that tumbles into Lake Windermere, this grand property is a special place that couples will never forget.
A sweeping driveway guides guests through seven acres of glorious gardens to a fountain settled at the front of this traditional Lakeland stone and ivy-clad country home. This Victorian gentleman’s summer residence offers grandeur on a human scale, with every inch a home, but with all of the best bits of a five-star hotel. The proportioned inside spaces are warm and inviting, mixing stylish modernity with inglenook fireplaces and period furniture. There are five licensed areas to host ceremonies, 20 individually-designed boutique bedrooms and award-winning dog-friendly facilities.
The William Morris Music Room was built onto the house in 1905 as a music room for Dr Charles. This charming space has room for 32 guests and boasts a vaulted ceiling, furniture that can be moved about to create a mini aisle and a large open fire that creates a cosy setting for winter weddings.
Alternatively, the Great Oaks & Small Oaks Room can hold 60 nearest and dearest. With original Victorian high ceilings, traditional mouldings and a gorgeous fireplace at one end of the room, this space looks out onto the surrounding green valley as well as the fast-flowing beck that runs from the village of Troutbeck.
For those wishing to tie the knot outdoors, The Upper Lawn provides the perfect setting with luscious colourful trees and space for 100 loved ones. This area doubles up as a helipad for those wanting to make a grand entrance.
The Orangery provides a light and airy ceremony space that brings the outdoors in, with views across the river and majestic woodland and room for 100 friends and family.
