The Lake District is one of my favourite places in the world, so when I was asked to visit Tweedies Bar & Lodge in Cumbria, I jumped at the chance. My partner joined me, and having not visited the area for years, he was giddy with excitement and couldn't wait to see the sights.

When we arrived, we were impressed by the hotel's grand exterior and gorgeous décor. The pleasant receptionist answered any questions we had and made sure we settled in comfortably. The space went beyond our expectations, with a king-sized bed, a TV, complimentary gin and charming windows, which overlooked the rolling hills. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we saw the en suite bathroom, boasting complimentary toiletries, a heated towel rack and a walk-in rain shower.

Spectacular views
We awoke after the best night's sleep we'd had in a long time, feeling like royalty. We had breakfast in the main restaurant, where there was something to suit everyone, from pastries and fruit to a full English. I opted for the continental option; it was delicious, and my partner chose salmon and eggs, which he loved.

After breakfast, we were introduced to the lovely Laura. She showed us the facilities and the charming wedding spaces. There are a variety of rooms located inside the hotel that are perfect for intimate nuptials. Alternatively, a marquee can be erected in the grounds to hold large celebrations. My favourite was the living room, a beautiful space with a grand fireplace and comfortable furniture.

We spent the rest of the day exploring. There's a walking trail next to the hotel that runs alongside the picturesque River Rothay. It offers stunning views of the nearby mountains – truly a sight to be behold. We also saw the charming village of Grasmere. The shops sold delightful handmade products, and the café we visited had a wide range of delicious snacks.

To dine for
After lounging around in our white fluffy robes on our unbelievably comfortable bed, it was a struggle dragging ourselves out of the room for dinner, even though I couldn't wait to taste the food. I'm quite a fussy eater, but there was so much choice that it was difficult to choose just one dish!

We both opted for the meze platter with hummus, falafel, spiced flatbread and harissa. It was lovely, and I could have easily eaten a second serving! For the main, I chose fish and chips. My partner went with the halloumi and aubergine lasagne. My meal was delicious, and it was the ideal size to fill me up but leave enough room for what I consider to be the main event: dessert! We finished with a chocolate brownie and ice cream – I have a really sweet tooth, so for me this was the perfect choice. It wasn't too heavy, and I could have happily had more.

After dinner, we visited the on-site bar. This charming space had a cosy and relaxed atmosphere – a must-visit if you're staying at the hotel. The live band kept us entertained and were extremely talented, and the choice of drinks went beyond our expectations.

A few hours later, we wearily climbed the staircase to our room, and I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.

Pure indulgence
The next morning, we enjoyed breakfast one last time before beginning the long drive home. I tucked into a selection of pastries, while my partner opted for the salmon and eggs again. We were sad to be leaving after such a luxurious stay, having fallen in love with Tweedies Bar & Lodge. It's safe to say we're planning on visiting again soon!
