I'm not usually stuck when it comes to putting words to paper but I don't know where to start with this one as every element of our stay at The Langdale Estate was amazing! If you're looking for some pre-wedding pampering or a romantic break with your new hubby, this is the place to go.
The estate consists of The Langdale Hotel, one of the best four-star resorts in the Lake District, The Brimstone Hotel, a collection of 16 luxury suites, leisure facilities, Brimstone Spa and a choice of two options for eating, drinking and relaxing – Stove Restaurant & Bar and Wainwrights' Inn both of which feature local produce and items from the estate's smokehouse. Set in the heart of the Langdale Valley, it benefits from pretty streams, rocky outcrops and breathtaking scenery in every direction.
My husband and I were lucky enough to experience the Spa Break, which includes accommodation at The Langdale Hotel, breakfast in the Stove Restaurant, unlimited access to the Spa, two treatments and lunch in the Spa Deli.
The place to relax
Exclusively for adults, the Brimstone Spa's inspired by the surrounding landscape. With its contemporary styling and indoor and outdoor spaces to relax and rejuvenate, this really is just the tonic. We enjoyed the journey through the seven thermal experiences and then took to the relaxation pool, which boasts jets and fountains to massage and stimulate. We then kicked back with a good read around the open fire wrapped in cosy blankets and popped into the Finnish sauna to warm up every now and then.
Our lunch in the Spa Deli was delightful and we even managed to dine al fresco in the early-spring sunshine.
After lunch I was treated to the Autograph Full Body Massage and my husband enjoyed the Deeper Than Deep Hot Stones treatment. My other half isn't a huge fan of massages (he's too inpatient) but he said that this was the best he'd ever experienced and didn't want it to end so that's saying a lot! There's a range of calming treatments on offer as well as the option of booking The Bubble Private Spa – the perfect space for you and your loved one to enjoy dual treatments, a bath and a range of heat and steam experiences in complete privacy.
Eat, sleep, drink
After our relaxing time in the spa, we took a stroll through the estate to Wainwright's Inn for a drink in the sun before heading for dinner at the Stove Bar and Restaurant. We started with a cocktail on the mezzanine overlooking the waterwheels and distant mountains and then made our way through to the restaurant. We had the signature sharing lamb, which I'd highly recommend and there's a range of modern and traditional dishes on offer all featuring local seasonal produce.
We ended the day in style in a Lakeland Signature Room. The Langdale Hotel has a choice of bedrooms. Ultimate rooms are perfect for special occasions with boutique styling and design. The waterside rooms boast balconies overlooking the cascading Great Langdale Beck and four-poster beds with feature art and The Lakeland Signature Rooms take their design influence from the landscape.
Check out on your travels
We stopped off at The Hare and Hounds at Levens for lunch on our way home. This gorgeous 16th-century coaching inn set in a pretty village on the edge of the Lake District is full of character. The cocktail list, local cask ales, craft beers and delicious comfort food are not to be missed and it has rooms too so you can stay the night if you have a long trip ahead of you.
