Enjoying a romantic dinner aboard the Flying Scotsman on Valentine's Day last year, Lisa was completely taken by surprise when her partner, Richard, got down on one knee and proposed.
After meeting at a friend's birthday celebration in 2008 they had their first date, which had an unexpected twist. “The date went well, but then Richard left for Brazil the very next day!” says Lisa. There were no surprises during the run-up to the wedding, however, as they worked closely together to plan their big day. “It took us one year to organise and we enjoyed it because we were able to take it steady over a period of time.”
The couple opted for a sophisticated colour scheme of cream and navy blue, but decided to keep one little secret from each other. “We didn't discuss the groom's suit as we wanted it to be a surprise, like the dress was for him.” While the day was traditional, Lisa and Rich knew their guests wanted to let their hair down later, so they travelled with everyone on a double decker bus and turned on the party mode.
Lisa shares some of her picture-perfect moments of her big day with us…
Having never worn a suit before, Richard proved to be a real prince charming, surprising Lisa with his navy blue ensemble.
Lisa's make-up was different to normal as she tends to wear very little, but she was overjoyed with the result. She loved the first hairstyle she tried and topped it with a glittering tiara.
Believe it or not, the first dress Lisa found turned out to be the one! Fitting at the top and flaring at the bottom, she instantly fell in love with this fairytale dress at the Manchester Bridal Show.
Best friend Tracey, sister Julie, niece Charmaine and God-daughter Macey were a picture of elegance in their long, navy blue, halter neck dresses.
“As part of our favours, we left personal messages to all our guests, in a jam jar!” – Lisa
Lisa's top wedding tip: “Enjoy every moment and wear comfortable footwear!”
“Our photographer, Julie Fortune was recommended by a friend of ours. We would definitely recommend her to others.”
“The cake was just how we pictured it – it was so elegant and pretty. It tasted amazing!”
Manchester 256 ticked all the boxes. “It really looked amazing – just like a big church, and the outside area was very big too.”
We hired a white double decker to transport us and all our loved ones to our reception venue so we could spend even more time together.
