Nicola and Daniel met at work. “Dan was on an internship scheme with his university,” says Nicola. “I was a full-time employee, and we hit it off right away. He's very kind, relaxed and easy to be around. I was immediately attracted to his warm personality and his charming good looks.”
Daniel popped the question during a trip to Rome. “We went to celebrate my birthday,” shares the bride. “Dan knew I wouldn't like a public proposal, so he asked me while we were in our hotel room. We had always talked about getting married, but I was surprised when he got down on one knee and asked me in Italian!”
Here she shares some of her favourite moments from their big day...
We liked the idea of having a weekend-long celebration, and the Grange Hotel was the obvious choice. There was plenty of space for us to decorate, and all the rooms were bright and airy.
Dan and I chose a three-tier cake from J'aime Cakes Kendal. We chose four flavours: raspberry, white chocolate, chocolate orange and carrot. To add a touch of elegance, we placed the bake on top of a geometric stand.
My dad likes to hike and spent months collecting pieces of slate from the fells in the Lake District. We cleaned them up, and my mum painted them to create our place names.
Sam Williams Wedding & Event Florist was brilliant. She understood our vision and went out of her way to ensure everything was perfect. We opted for eucalyptus, trailing amaranthus, peonies and foliage tied together with long ribbons.
For our centrepieces, we chose gold candelabra covered in green foliage and gypsophila, with tapered pink candles.
For our table plan, we hired a vintage shutter and attached gold hoops covered in foliage. Each one included a piece of paper with a table number and names written on it. My beautiful bridesmaids did this for us, and we loved the final product.
My bridesmaids opted for gorgeous backless gowns with long sleeves and heavy beading from Needle & Thread.
My dress was designed by Bo & Luca. I always wanted long sleeves and a lowback, so when I saw my gown, I instantly fell in love. I love fashion, and it complemented my style perfectly. I wanted to feel like me on my wedding day, so I wore my usual jewellery and added a fingertip-length veil with a vintage hair comb.
The Grange Hotel handled the catering. Our guests chose from four menus and canapés during the reception.
Daniel and his groomsmen wore suits and ties from TK Maxx.
We hired a wisteria canopy to go at the bottom of the aisle and placed trees on the tables in the reception room. To add a personal touch, we created a sweet cart with our families' favourite treats and a Polaroid photo display.
Our guests loved the photo booth. We wanted something a bit different, and our friends and family were queuing up to use it.
On the morning of the wedding, we felt incredibly grateful, happy and overwhelmed.
My dad fell off his chair during his speech, which left everyone in fits of laughter.
We hired a swing band called Black Magic. They were fabulous, and when they were finished, we had a DJ play a mixture of old school hits.
I couldn't have created such an amazing day without my bridesmaids. They love arts and crafts and were able to offer lots of great ideas. I asked them to do a speech, and it was brilliant the best one of the day.
For our honeymoon, we went to South Africa. We spent a few days in Cape Town, enjoyed a safari and visited Plettenberg Bay. We saw so many places and got to try great food and wine. It was the best trip we've ever been on.
