August/September 2022

August/September 2022

It’s official, I’m a married woman – eeek! After being engaged for nearly 18 months, and with all of the lockdowns and uncertainty, it’s been quite a rollercoaster of emotions, but I couldn’t have asked for a better day. It seems like just yesterday that I was telling our loved ones that we were engaged, and here we are as husband and wife (I don’t think I’ll ever get used to saying that).

My number one piece of advice is to enjoy the process and make it about what you want. We found that many of our nearest and dearest were quite vocal about what they wanted and how the day should be, which can feel quite overwhelming at times but try to remember it’s meant to be about you and your partner. Pick things that you want, and that will make you both happy and forget about everyone else. The day goes by in a flash so take some time out just the two of you to have a chat and take everything in.

Things will go wrong, but that’s okay. On the day, you won’t notice the little things, and all that will matter will be celebrating with your friends and family. Surround yourself with people that you love and trust. My bridesmaids were amazing at keeping my nerves in check and making sure I felt like a special bride. I couldn’t have asked for better, and I can’t wait to look back on our photographs with them.

This issue is full of inspiration, we highlight the latest cake trends, meet local musicians and entertainers and take a peek at gorgeous venues in Cumbria. If that’s not enough, we also look at showstopping wedding dresses and wow-factor honeymoon destinations.

Remember, if you’ve recently celebrated your day or have been involved with a shoot, you can submit it here or via email.

Long Acre Barn

Set in the Eden Valley, Long Acre Barn is discretely located on a working farm amongst pastoral countryside with stunning views across ancient woodland and a flower meadow. There’s a rustic, Victorian charm throughout, with a long drive through open fields and the sandstone barn and granary lovingly restored in a natural, pared back way to create an authentic venue. The exterior is welcoming with a large patio and pergola, and the windows and doorways framing the barn are flooded with natural light.

Long Acre Barn has been in the Addison family since 1859, and like many farming businesses, the owners explored several diversification options before deciding to transform the space into a wedding venue. After two years of planning and a further two years in renovation, the barn was completed, with the first weddings successfully taking place. Every part of the décor has been thoughtfully planned, including the oak and larch used for the staircases, bar, pergola and doors and the recycled animal drinking bowls incorporated into the patio walls.

With a wedding licence for the whole venue, couples have the flexibility to tie the knot anywhere at Long Acre Barn – from the orchard, lawns or Log Store to the main Barn or Granary. As a venue with lots of break out options, it can easily cater for any wedding. On the left side of the property is The Barn and Granary, which has a large sandstone patio, pergola, and quirky wall. The Barn can accommodate up to 140 guests throughout the day, while the Granary can hold 30.

The Victorian orchard is a very relaxing space, with a meandering hoggin path leading to the walled garden, a patio and a seating area outside the Barn. There’s also a large lawn that overlooks the woodland and wildflower meadows.

Across the lawn is the Log Store, a fun and quirky covered space with a firepit, lights and room for 40 nearest and dearest. It’s perfect for barbecues and hog roasts or creating a festival vibe and comes complete with a glitter ball tied to the corrugated roof with a piece of baler twine.

Meet the team at the Writing Forge

Meet the team at the Writing Forge

The Writing Forge is a new company based in Lancashire.

"My wedding was planned for June 2020, bad timing - Yes, I know," says Adam Doyle, the director and head writer of The Writing Forge. "Like thousands of couples across the country, we faced the stress of cancelling suppliers and rearranging dates. We had gone for a very simple rustic outdoor wedding celebration, with a ceremony at the registry as we had both been married before. A year later, we were ready to go despite having half the number of guests we had originally planned.

"We wanted a more intimate ceremony during the day in front of all our guests, but finding the right kind of ceremony and vows proved to be a challenge. We are not particularly religious and wanted something that reflected us, our personality, and what we had been through. We settled on a hand-binding ceremony and set about finding the right words. When planning a wedding, you think of all the big stuff, dress, photographer, cake, venue, etc, but how much time do you set aside for vows, speeches, and toasts? It's one of the things that people remember the most and can make the day extra special.

Lush Dragon's Egg bath bomb is going gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness month

Lush's cult favourite Dragon's Egg bath bomb is going gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness month launching online from 23rd September and in all Lush UK&I stores from 24th September 2022. This September, it's with heavy hearts that Lush UK&I is going gold for childhood cancer awareness month. This year the Constantine family (the co-founders of Lush) lost seven-year-old Dexter Constantine-Tatchell, their Master of Dragons. He fought fiercely against Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare childhood cancer that lacks awareness as well as a lack of funding for research and treatment.
