February/March 2022 |
|
Welcome to the first issue of 2022. It dawned on me over the festive period that in just a few months time I will become Mrs Cullen - eek! I can’t believe how quickly time passes, we’ve been engaged for more than a year now, and it’s just flown by. I’m very organised, much to my fiancé’s dismay, but the closer we get to the day, the more I feel like I’m forgetting something. We’ve booked all of our suppliers, organised all the outfits, so it’s just the small things left to do, but the nerves are starting to set in. My wonderful bridesmaids have been helping keep me calm, but the idea of walking down the aisle without falling over is giving me nightmares. Talking to some of our readers, I know that many of you felt the same in the run-up to your big day, so it’s really nice knowing that I’m not alone. If you have any tips for controlling nerves on the day, please feel free to get in touch as any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
I hope you enjoy this issue as much as I did writing it. It’s full of tips from local wedding professionals, ideas for styling your venue, fabulous real weddings, styled shoots and an impressive fashion section.
If you’ve recently celebrated your day or been involved with a styled shoot, email me or get in touch via our website.
Happy planning!

Spotlight on The Lake District |

THE VENUE
THE VENUE is part of a working brewery based in Kendal, Cumbria. The Scandi-style interior with custom-made giant tipi is decorated with locally themed artwork created by artists Kate Lloyd-Philips and Hannah Fox.
The festival-size tipi that dominates THE VENUE’s main room is decorated with a large chandelier and decked with seasonal dried flowers. Wood cladding and beautiful lighting create a warm, rustic and Scandinavian atmosphere. There is space for up to 100 seated guests, a fully-equipped stage for live bands, DJs and access to an in-house public address system as well as a fully licensed and staffed bar.
Next to the main stage sits a wooden hut made from live edge wood. This hut can be used as a storage area, as a dressing room for musicians and performers or to serve food through a serving hatch made out of an old MGB GT car boot lid.
The gated Brewery Yard is flanked by the brewery itself, the wedding venue and the brewery’s tap bar - The Barrel House. There is ample outside space for either an additional marquee if required or parking for the main wedding guest vehicles. Outside the main entrance to THE VENUE is an access point for external catering services.
The Barrel House has outside heated wooden booths with beer garden-style benches and tables that serve as additional outdoor seating space for the brewery pub.

Outdoor civil weddings and civil partnerships made permanent |
|
One positive that came from Covid affecting the wedding industry, and trust us there are not many, was that it highlighted how archaic our weddings laws are in the UK and how badly they needed modernising to reflect couples' desires. Temporary legislation allowing outdoor civil weddings and partnerships to take place outside of a permanent structure such as a pagoda, has been in place since last summer. At the time it allowed Covid-secure weddings to go ahead, however, the move was so widely received that from April it will be a permanent change.
