December/January 2021/2022

Can you believe it’s that time of year again? After everything we’ve all been through in the last two years, I think we all need to relax and what better time than Christmas/New Year? This festive season feels strange to me as it’s my last as a Miss. I’m getting married in July 2022, and the countdown is officially on. Everything is booked and I’m starting to get excited and nervous about the idea of walking down the aisle. I love writing about your weddings and sharing your stories with our wonderful region, and it’s given me some great ideas for my own big day and is helping keep my nerves in check!

The December/January issue has always been my favourite, and we’ve gone all out to create an issue full of inspirational weddings, styled shoots, wedding dress ideas and fairytale-inspired venues. We’re always looking for weddings and shoots to feature, so please get in touch by email at melissa.barker@kdeventsandpublishing.com or via our website.

Merry Christmas and happy New Year!

Abbey House Hotel & Gardens

Abbey House Hotel & Gardens was originally a mansion designed by the famous architect, Sir Edwin Lutyens before it was converted into the current premises. The modern venue underwent a multi-million-pound refurbishment making every room and suite tastefully modern. Set within 14 acres of private woodland, the property blends a contemporary style with impressive architecture to create a beautiful setting to tie the knot.

Couples looking for a traditional setting will love The Great Hall, which has space for 80 guests for the ceremony and reception.

The hotel now offers tipi and marquee weddings for up to 100 friends and family.

Alternatively, the Cavendish Suite is available for up to 200 loved ones throughout the day.

Intimate celebrations take place in The Garden Room with 20 nearest and dearest.

Kendal Brewery is now available for wedding receptions

Bowness Bay Brewing is a complex of industrial buildings in Castle Mills, Kendal. Inside The Venue are tipi poles covered in twinkly fairylights, walls clad with reclaimed pallets, originally used for hops and malt, cosy booths and a backdrop for the stage made from corrugated iron salvaged from a local farm. The distinctive space, called The Venue, has been developed by Richard and Kim Husbands, at their Bowness Bay Brewing HQ at Castle Mills, close to the River Kent and five minutes from Kendal town centre. The venue was originally intended to be a bottling plant for the thriving brewery and a pipeline was laid from the brewhouse to the building. Ultimately the space wasn't big enough for the expanding bottling operation, but Richard and Kim saw its potential as a private hire venue for wedding receptions and parties. Their ambition was to create a relaxed and informal space. The finished design combines the trend for industrial-style wedding venues and Scandi influences.
