April/May 2021

I’ve worked at Country Wedding Magazines for more than four years and over that time I’ve seen trends come and go, inspirational real weddings and worked with some amazing suppliers. As a result, I thought I’d have a pretty good idea of what I’d want at my own wedding but when my partner, Dave, recently proposed I realised I have absolutely no idea. I’m sure lots of you will agree that the first few weeks of having the ‘engaged’ status and wearing the ring feels a bit surreal, but the endless possibilities are also really exciting. Like so many of you, we’re trying to plan the perfect wedding during a pandemic, so things have been a little unconventional so far with online tours, lots of Skype meetings and E-mails. Its been so wonderful to see first hand how suppliers in the wedding industry are going above and beyond to ensure their couples’ days are special, regardless of the restrictions.

If like me, you’re looking for inspiration, then this issue is perfect for you. We’ve rounded up some of the best photographers, spoken to local jewelers, hair and makeup artists and a host of other talented suppliers. We have three real weddings starting on page 21 and a stunning shoot on page 49 that’s sure to inspire you.

You can submit your wedding or styled shoot via our website or at Melissab@kdmediapublishing.com

I hope you enjoy the issue!

Calthwaite Hall

Calthwaite Hall is a Gothic stone country house hidden in plain sight in the centre of a traditional Cumbrian village. The sweeping driveway, accessed through a majestic wrought iron gate, leads to the arched stone portico that’s the centrepiece of the Edwardian Gothic hall. Couples will be able to admire the secret garden, historic terraces, curvaceous borders and listen to the singing birds and wildlife. This lovingly restored and private property is perfect for exploring the wilderness of the Lake District, the Cumbrian coast and the turbulent history of the Scottish Borders and Hadrian’s Wall.

There are a variety of indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces available. The formal Drawing Room, which has a grand piano and log burner, can hold 110 loved ones.

The one-of-a-kind spiral staircase in the Hallway can accommodate 40 guests and provides a beautiful ceremony space with an abundance of photograph opportunities.

Larger celebrations are held under the arched-stone portico, which can be decorated with a choice of flowers and garlands and can hold 200 friends and family.

The gardens expand over two and a half acres with delicate water features, formal terraces, natural woodland and can be used for ceremonies. Marquees and tipis can also be hired upon request.

Calthwaite Hall has invested in a new custom-built Victorian-style Orangery. This stunning building has a glass front with double doors opening onto a Mediterranean style garden with plants and herbs. The space has an elegant, neutral canvas that can be personalised to suit different themes and colour schemes, a full bar set-up with beer pumps and a designated dancefloor area. It’s capable of seating 120 formally and 150 for an informal evening celebration.
